About : Gambia Independence Day celebrations mark the day when the Gambia gained Independence from Colonial Britain in 1965. It is celebrated with a march pass at Mc Carthy Square by many school children, civil servants, army forces, teachers and many other people in front of the President and other dignitaries. The Gambia also established it's internal self-government earlier in 1963. The main Independence day events in the Gambia are held in Banjul, the capital.
