About : Thirunakkara Arattu is celebrated at Thirunakkara Temple in Kottayam district of Kerala in March or April every year. The idol of Lord Mahadeva is taken out to the temple pond in a procession that is lead by nine caparisoned elephants in full regalia on the last day of the Arattu and concludes with the bathing ceremony of Lord Mahadeva. Kathakali, the mystic traditional dance of Kerala is a major attraction and the beautifully and colorfully dressed masked dancers perform all night long on the third and fourth night. Other folk dances are also showcased during this festival. Various industrial and agricultural products are displayed and traded in the shops of the fair held in connection with the Utsavam. The cultural programmes and variety entertainments staged during the festive days are the highlights of the festival.
