About : Iceland Beer Day is dedicated to honoring the elimination of the 74-year prohibition of beer which ended on March 1, 1989. Icelander in the year 1908, voted in favor of the ban of all the alcoholic drinks which came into effect on January 1, 1915. As international travel brought Icelanders back in touch with beer, bills to legalize it was moved to the Parliament. Prohibition lost more support in 1985. In the year 1989, the upper house Parliament ended the beer prohibition in the country.
