About : Cameroon's Independence Day is observed to celebrate its independence from France. First Cameroon was the territory administered by the German Empire. During World War I the territory of Cameroon was occupied by French and British which is divided into two parts as League of Nations mandate. The first step to gain independence was taken in 1950. After many struggles, in 1960 it became independent and Ahmadou Ahidjo was a president. After this, the Union des Populations du Cameroun was renamed as Republic of Cameroun.
